![]() Besides for the shade in the afternoon is there any benefit in planting one direction or the other? Thanks for being there to help us. I plan on planting the plants that can’t take as much heat closer to the house going north to south parallel to our house so they only get morning and early afternoon sun and more hardy plants between those and citrus garden going east to west to break up the straight walkways which takes me out of my comfort zone. ![]() We have decided instead of planting our gardens in the back of our property we will fill that space with several 2′ X 8′ sf gardens. There is 19′ between that and the carport. We have a 6′ X 16′ square foot citrus garden with satsumas on one end and kumquats on the other end. ![]() I tell all the young people I know that they should never get old because it sucks. I know 2′ x 8′ seems awfully narrow but as we get older it gets more difficult to do any reaching past actual arm length without leaning too much. We live in south Louisiana where it’s hot and humid for months on end so the weeds and grass can take over very quickly and has caused us to lose our desire to garden at all. We’re not pressed for space by any stretch of imagination so we’re making 2′ X 8′ beds with 18″ or 2′ walk ways between and covered with mulch so we don’t need to mow. I understand the point of wasted space for walkways but I’m so OCD that I just can’t do it any other way. I don’t like having to step on plants and compact the soil when walking in the bed. We’ve tried beds that were 4’X 8′ but the middle was too far away for us to comfortably reach the vegetables and the weeds. There are signs of a warmer and cleverer adolescent super-drama throughout “Shazam! Fury of the Gods.” Clearly enunicated and frantically declaimed dialogue hints at Billy’s prevailing fear of “aging out of” his family, especially now that he’s about to turn 18 years old. The movie’s adult villains don’t stand out, though Mirren still smirks like a champ. Levi, who plays Billy’s alter-ego Shazam (also known as Captain Marvel), and Adam Brody, who plays “Super Freddy” (AKA Captain Marvel Jr., Elvis’ favorite super-guy), both stand out as adolescents struggling with thankless grown-up feelings and responsibilities. That kind of pre-chewed humor is only charming because it’s finessed by the movie’s ensemble cast members, especially the actors who play the punchy, adult-aged demigods that Billy and his family become when they say the magic word. Don’t worry if you forgot this last plot point, Billy and Freddy repeatedly joke about it. Billy also longs to know what his “superhero name” is he gets some answers after he unexpectedly reunites with his grumpy guru/mentor, the Wizard ( Djimon Hounsou), who somehow survived the events of the first “Shazam!”. They refer to the Marvels as the “Philly Fiascos,” presumably because you can’t successfully brand a DC Comics character as a Marvel anything. But even the residents of Philadelphia, where most of “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” takes place, don’t seem to know who these kids are. The identity of the third Daughter is briefly shrouded in mystery.īilly’s anxieties speak loudest for the “Marvel Family,” as comics fans know them, a convivial group of tweens whom, after yelling the magic word “Shazam,” are granted godlike superpowers. It’s schtickier and less assured than the first “Shazam!” but these leftovers still reheat well enough.īilly, Freddy, and their foster family members return to fight the latest vengeful dangling plot thread, this time a trio of vindictive sorceresses called the Daughters of Atlas, led by Hespera ( Helen Mirren) and Kalypso ( Lucy Liu), who want to avenge their father, Atlas (not in this picture). “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” mostly sticks to the comic book formula that the first movie poked fun at, despite another strong comedic performance from star Zachary Levi and some sporadic yuks throughout. The first “Shazam!” works as well as it does because it’s mostly focused on two adolescent pipsqueaks, Billy Batson ( Asher Angel) and Freddy Freeman ( Jack Dylan Grazer), who get sucked into a generic fantasy, with some assistance from their extended family of orphan buddies. “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” meanders further in that direction. The redemption of the Code is subject to Fandango's Terms and Policies at. Kazuma and company’s big adventure commences after he receives a letter from Yunyun that demands their attention in the Crimson Demon Clan’s village. Unfortunately, Legend of Crimson does not have a dub, but the original cast has such chemistry together that this really feels like a bunch of friends on a bizarre quest. War and conflict do happen, but this is material that will make you laugh or blush more than it will make you cry. But in spite of everyone wileding magical powers, this is light fare a story that wants to be silly and have fun with its characters more than it wants to engage in grueling battle. The KonoSuba series is a part of the fantasy genre that’s set within a magical world that’s full of exciting powers. Accordingly, KonoSuba: Legend of Crimson avoids getting lost in the details and tries to trade in fan service as much as possible. It will take some time for the uninitiated to orient themselves with what exactly is going on. This lack of context means that the film can jump right into the action, but it may be jarring for those who have no previous knowledge of the anime. This film doesn’t try to fill in the blanks, explain the premise of the series, or cover how Kazuma would up in the KonoSuba world in the first place. Nonetheless the characters remain enjoyable enough that the film amounts to a strong summation of the series. That’s great for viewers who are completely blind to the source material, but for fans who are hungry for new adventures from Kazuma and company, Legend of Crimson is likely to disappoint. ![]() Legend of Crimson is basically a 90-minute version of the KonSuba – God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! anime series. It’s a movie that colors inside of the lines, but it does so with such love that the results are works of art. ![]() The fantastical empire that’s visited within KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World isn’t anything wildly original but it thoroughly understands the enticements of the genre. There are countless anime stories that tap into this energy to varying degrees of success, but the reason that it’s such a staple is there’s something universally appealing about escape. There’s something inherently beautiful about being transported to a magical world full of unbelievable creatures, awe-inspiring powers, and unforgettable allies. The Bulldogs are setting the pace on and off the field these days. They didn’t just watch some amazing things happen Saturday in their own Dawg Pound. “It was the most awe-inspiring effort by an SEC fan base in memory. – Pete Thamel, Sports Illustrated (10.10.14) The throng rings cowbells to the beat, creating a deafening roar as they try to hold on to the feeling.” “Want to know what a revolution sounds like? Between the third and fourth quarter, Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” blares through the stadium speakers. Of all the intimidating venues in America, I cannot imagine a single more oppressive place than previously sleepy Davis Wade Stadium.” On football Saturdays in 2014, with a dream of a team to cheer for, it is an ear-splitting slice of hell for the visiting team. Then the fans add one more layer of sound by howling hysterically for four hours. The high-volume video board functions as a waterboard. They ceaselessly pound upon your eardrums. “Those polite Mississippians ditch the Southern hospitality in favor of sadism, transforming their stadium into a torture chamber. “To all those Bulldog fans shining those cell phone flashlights and signing along to Don’t Stop Believin’, they make Davis Wade Stadium the most fun place to watch a football game in the SEC.” “Honestly, it’s the trip I look forward to the most … They lay out the red carpet. They are simply the best and most genuine fans in college football. Andy Staples, Sports Illustrated (9.14.17) – Rick Cleveland, Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame writer (11.11.17) You could not hear the guy next to you even when he was yelling.” “Furthermore, Scott Field had become a virtual noise factory, louder than ever and that is really loud. … But what was displayed on Saturday night bested anything you’ll find anywhere else in this conference.” The crowd remained engaged from an hour before the game until Nick Fitzgerald’s Hail Mary sailed out of the end zone. During the game, the boards transformed into the best television sets one could want, airing replays, music videos and hype trailers. Two ginormous high-definition video boards were airing the Georgia-Auburn game prior to kickoff, drawing you into the stadium early when you might otherwise stay outside. Any music they do pump in is normally out of touch or not what players and fans are currently listening to. So many SEC schools are stuck in the past, unwilling to change the old guard, relying on the outdated marching band to belt the same tired fight songs and between-downs music. More than anything, the experience is modern. Yes, the cowbells exist and they are quite, quite loud. It’s the best gameday experience and atmosphere I’ve seen in more than 10 years of attending and covering SEC football. “The atmosphere inside Davis Wade Stadium is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. John Hayes, Producer of The Paul Finebaum Show, (9.19.17) “When there is a big game at Davis Wade, I’d put that atmosphere up against anything in college football. “The facilities just get better and better every time I come.” – Andy Staples, Sports Illustrated (9.14.17) The CLANGA in real life is a lot different than the CLANGA off the speaker.” “As road environments go, Mississippi State gets really loud – lot of CLANGA going on. “Alabama at Mississippi State last year was the loudest stadium I’ve ever been in.” – Pat Forde, Yahoo Sports on Dan Patrick Show (8.22.17) You go through a game there, you come out of there and you can’t hear for about a day and a half. They get those cowbells ringing about three hours before kickoff out in the parking lots. Staples made similar comments last summer, but now that Kentucky Football has renewed energy behind a revamped offense, it’s picking up steam at the national level.“Mississippi State has become the loudest stadium in America. Stoops, meanwhile, can finish third in the easier half of the SEC and live just as comfortably as his peers in those pressure-cooker jobs. Any of the schools on this list will run off the coach if he doesn’t average double-digit wins and doesn’t at least occasionally win the conference or make the College Football Playoff. If Mark Stoops averages eight wins a year, they’ll build him a statue in Lexington. Andy Staples argued that the combination of reasonable expectations, SEC revenue, and Stoops’ recruiting pipeline in Ohio make for a very cushy seat. The Athletic’s college football staff went a step further, opining that Mark Stoops has the best gig in America. The SEC Network’s Peter Burns argued on KSR yesterday that Kentucky is a top ten job in the sport, top five in the SEC. There’s been a lot of talk this week about the best coaching jobs in college football. ![]() Īccording to Allard Laban, creative chief for both Jellyvision Labs and Jackbox Games, they select games to include in the packs through a combination of allowing the team to submit fleshed-out ideas, and through testing various ideas through pen-and-paper trials Laban stated that for Party Pack 4, they had over fifty play-tested concepts which they narrowed down to four new games, rounding out the package with an improved version of Fibbage. A key part of Party Pack games is to streamline the ability for players to get into games, and according to Jackbox Games' CEO Mike Bilder, they spent about a year working on building their servers and software to provide a flexible architecture for the player-side mobile and web interface to expand for any of the games, and to avoid having players download any type of app to get started. Subsequent Jackbox Party Packs have included improvements of existing games, support for more players including the addition of audience participation through the same connectivity approach, better support for content management for streams (as to remove offensive terms in responses, for example), and the ability to create custom games. The company saw this as a new development model that allowed them to provide new packs on an annual basis, play around with different game formats, and provide higher value to consumers over one-off games. This formed the basis of the Jackbox Party Pack, with the first pack released in 2014 including updated versions of You Don't Know Jack, Fibbage, a reworked version of Lie Swatter for its multiplayer approach, and two new games. With the success of Fibbage, Jackbox Games decided that they could offer these games in packs, reworking older games to use the streaming capabilities and adding in new games. Other players would participate by using a web browser or mobile device to connect to the streaming player's game through Jackbox's servers and which to provide their answers. One key game that followed this was its 2014 game Fibbage, which allows up to eight simultaneous players, one of whom can use live streaming or play with people in the same room. Īmong its one-off games including Lie Swatter, Clone Booth, and Word Puttz, generally designed as single player games or played asynchronously with other players. This last version was a critical success, and led the studio to focus on developing similar games, rebranding the studio by 2013 as Jackbox Games. īy 2008, Jellyvision, now named The Jellyvision Lab, saw that mobile gaming was booming, so it created a small subsidiary, Jellyvision Games, to rework You Don't Know Jack, first for consoles in its 2011 version, then for mobile and Facebook users with the now-defunct 2012 iteration. The company focused on developing business solution software, specifically offering software to its clients to help assist their customers for complex forms or other types of support. ![]() Though the series had been successful in the late 1990s, Jellyvision had not been able to make the transition easily from computer to home console games, and by 2001, all but six employees of Jellyvision had been laid off. ![]() Jellyvision had been well-established for its You Don't Know Jack series of "irreverent trivia" games.
